Yet another contest is underway. In addition to the contests already underway (see down the page a bit) there’s a new one that just went up here:

I’ve noticed that several blogs and websites out there are running contests giving away copies of my new book and it occurred to me that as the author I should probably do something myself. Yeah, I know, I’m a marketing whiz 🙂 First, let me say a huge thanks to the publicity and marketing folks at S&S and Sneak Attack Media for all the outreach they’ve done to get Burning Shadows noticed, and an equally big thanks to the many bloggers and sites who have graciously agreed to host various contests, interviews, and reviews of my book.

So, here’s the deal. I’ve got two signed sets (hardcover) of A Darkness Forged in Fire and The Light of Burning Shadows to give away. I’ll mail them anywhere, so it’s open to the world. Please respond directly to this post with your name and country (don’t put your personal address, just your country for now). I’ll write down all the names and put them in a hat and then draw out the two winners on Tuesday, July 28 when the book officially goes on sale in North America. One entry per person and all that legalese 🙂

Cheers,

Chris

Big news coming on Thursday

That’s when I go back to the orthopedic surgeon to find out if I can start running again. If I cross my fingers anymore I’ll break them…but it shouldn’t affect my running. Actually, I’ve already snuck in a couple of short runs on the treadmill at the gym and oh, it wasn’t better than sex, but it was gooooooooooooood 🙂

Cold turkey or gradual moderation?

So here’s my deep, dark secret…I’m addicted to bread. I used to have very clear and not overly sympathetic ideas about people who struggled with smoking, overeating, and every other kind of addiction going, and then I realized I had my own. I run (well, I’m starting up again after being sidelined for a couple of months) and I workout and am in pretty good shape. I suspect I’m addicted to running, but that one isn’t likely to kill me…just cause injury. The bread one is scarier. I don’t think I’ve gone a day without bread in, well, years. Toast in the morning, sandwich at lunch, some kind of roll at dinner, and if not that, definitely carbs in the form of potatoes. Now that I’m getting back to my running (and oh what a glorious feeling it is!) I want to use the opportunity to tackle my eating habits, too, and I’ve decided to target bread and carbs. My girlfriend is a very healthy eater and has been a big help in both setting an example and offering me sound advice. Now I want to step it up a notch and see if any of you have kicked this habit, and if so, find out how you did it.

As I write this I’ve been eating a toasted English muffin. Help me!
