My kingdom for a butter tart, ok, two dozen butter tarts

My brother lives in Belleville, ON, and is lucky to live just a town away from a little bakery called Rachel’s where all they make are these absolutely scrumptious butter tarts. Now that I’m back in New York I find myself still thinking about those glorious little pastries (yeah, well, you know how exciting my Saturday night was) and I’m trying to find a bakery here in the city that sells them. So far, no luck. Anyone know of a place in New York that makes them? In return for a good lead I’d offer to name a character in the next book after you but that’s probably a bit extreme…I know, I’ll name a butter tart after you…right before I eat it…or maybe I’ll just say thanks.

Got in a nice run today

Maybe two miles tops, but it was just so wonderful to be outside in the sun. It’s probably a good thing I know Central Park well because when I get out there I really let my brain slip into neutral. If ran like that somewhere else I think I’d get lost. As it is the battle is always to remember to stop. I injured myself the last time by pushing past the point of stupidity so I’m trying to just nudge up against it this time.

I also got in a couple of hours of writing so a fairly productive day for a Sunday. And now the Yankee-Angles are on which wraps things up nicely.

Another rainy night in Gotham which means no Yankees on tv tonight

I don’t watch that much baseball, actually none, except during the playoffs. I had had it my mind that I’d tune in tonight and have the game on in the background as I wrote, but now that my plan has been thwarted I think I’ll just write and then read. I did venture out earlier and bought myself a treat – an apple fritter. Oh…baby. I made myself a coffee then cut off about a 1/3 of the pastry, turned on some SpongeBob, and just enjoyed the moment (yeah, my Saturday nights are THAT exciting). There’s a temptation to go tear off another piece, but that way lies madness! I shall resist and save it for tomorrow.

Rainy night here in Gotham

It’s dark, cold, and raining outside which is the perfect setting for venturing into something a little disturbing so I’m reading a horror novel. It’s Joe Schreiber’s Death Troopers set in the Star Wars universe. I hope it’s spooky, but not too gory. I’m a huge fan of………suspense 🙂 and not as much of gore.

Long walk by the East River tonight

I was in a wandering mood so I set out first for the library because that’s usually where I’ll find something to take my mind off of things. I browsed the shelves for a while, but I realized I just wasn’t in a reading mood, so I went to the river and just started walking. I’ll often grab a coffee and sit on a bench and jot down notes, but tonight I just couldn’t settle so I meandered until it got dark. Then I walked some more until my head cleared and I actually started to think of things to write down, but that’s when I remembered I hadn’t actually brought a note pad with me so I spent the whole walk home whispering into my Blackberry so I wouldn’t forget. I just played it back and I sound like a quiet, slightly deranged person, which does explain a couple of looks I got as I passed people on the street.
