Mini-monsoon in NYC last night
September 02, 2021
It’s nights like last night that I’m glad I don’t have a dog that needs to go out for a walk. The subway system was shut down due to flooding. Not every day you see a waterfall inside the station. I live on the third floor of my building so I jokingly say that I’ll be good in any major flood, but in reality I would probably only last a few days. And if it were a zombie apocalypse I’m not sure I’d want to be a survivor at all. Those left to make a new world look miserable.
What’s new in the world of fantasy?

I’m not nearly as up-to-date as I used to be (not that I was ever that up-to-date to begin with. I found out in an interview that my last book, Of Bone And Thunder, was considered to be part of the grim-dark subgenre. First I’d heard of it!) I would pop into the nearest B&N and wander the shelves on a regular basis. It closed during the pandemic and now is gone completely. There was something incredibly comforting about being able to go and be surrounded by new books with all their strange and unique worlds yet to be explored. Yes, I still go to the library, but it’s not exactly the same.
C’mon autumn!

I have never been, and I suspect I will never be, a summer person. Not big on spring either (allergies play no small role in that). I’m cool with winter (I did grow up in Canada playing hockey from about age 4) and like a lot of people out there, I love the fall. My favorite piece of clothing is a sweater. I can’t wait to get my sweaters out, going for windy walks in Central Park and coming back indoors and making hot chocolate. Yes, that’s a cliché as it gets and I’m entirely ok with that.
Have a wonderful day, everyone.
Cheers,
Chris
