Yes, I saw District 9 tonight, and yes, I’m a fan. If you haven’t seen a trailer for it yet you can view one here (it’s rated R):

There are some terrific special effects in the movie, but it’s really more about the story. The juxtaposition of an alien slum in South Africa with its history of apartheid adds layers of complexity to an already intricate story. If you’re looking for a science fiction movie with good effects and even better plot you should definitely check this one out.

I went to get the mail today, and there was a package for me. It felt like a book, and I had recently gone on an Amazon.com book buying spree with a gift card, but I had gotten all the books I had ordered, so I had no idea what this could be. I open it up to SURPRISE!- A shiny brand new copy of The Light of Burning Shadows! Wha..? Oh, that’s right, I had entered a couple of contests that I had since forgotten about, assuming I hadn’t won anything. I had not been notified as a winner of anything, and to my recollection, I had only given my address to one contest because it was an email entry. I’m confused that the book came from Sneak Attack Media, but that the only email I sent my address to was the Fantasy Book Critic giveaway…Are they connected in some way?
Whether they’re connected or not, I guess it doesn’t matter too much. Somehow I won the book, and there’s nothing quite like receiving a free book- especially if it’s totally unexpected! Anyways, I’m looking forward to digging in when I’m done with my current reads, and I wanted to thank you for posting the contests in your journal! And thanks for putting a map inside- I’ve already been studying it!
I guess that would be a surprise 🙂 Sneak Attack Media are the marketing company my publisher hired to support the campaign promoting the book. They coordinated with a lot of websites/blogs to do giveaways and reviews.
Glad the map is already helping.
Cheers,
Chris
