So, today wasn’t the worst I’ve had

1. Received my copies of the novel this morning.
2. Had a great egg, bacon, and cheese on a toasted bagel for breakfast at the diner while chatting with my adopted New York Jewish grandmother.
3. Found out the UK Science Fiction Book Club is picking up A Darkness Forged in Fire.
4. Found out my book was a ‘pick of the week’ on a Canadian television morning show yesterday.
5. Saw and signed the first copies of my book in a B&N this afternoon.
6. Ate a really, really good black&white cookie…with milk.
7. Oh, and even though it happened last night, got two tickets to see The Police at MSG this August while supporting Public Television.
8. Other than that, not much happened.

Not much at all. Perhaps you’ll have a better day tomorrow. It is the Fourth, you know. A holiday in the contiguous 49, the watery 50th, and probably some territories.

I’ve heard about this July Fourth thing. Something to do with the British finally saying enough already, or something like that 🙂

It was all very matter of fact, too. One cool thing after another. I half-expected to open the refrigerator door and find a bar of gold in the vegetable keeper 🙂

      Re: Toasted Bagel?

H&H. When I time it right and get there when a fresh batch has just been brought out I’m not ashamed to say I weep a little with joy.

Though I am an Ess-a-Bagel fan (having grown up in Peter Cooper), I understand the sentiment. I live down south now but, every year or so, my wife has Ess-a-Bagel Federal Express some bagels, lox, and cream chese down here. While it is not fresh and hot, it still is something of an emotional experience for me.

Now that’s love. While bagels are a more recent staple of mine (last 15 years or so) I grew up with crumpets and they aren’t easy to find. Toasted with butter and a little jam…heaven!

I’m not sure I’ve ever had crumpets. I think I recall reading somewhere that you grew up in Canada. I spent much of my childhood commuting back and forth between NYC and Toronto. I recall that, whenever I was up there, I would stock up on the wonderful variety of chocolate bars that never made it south of the border (Aero, Smarties, Rosebuds, Jersey Milk, etc…). I would also get hockey cards, which never really made it big down here.
