Not really sure what to expect, although I have been to the one in New York and a few World Cons. I gather this one, however, is the big one. I have a few commitments for the book, but otherwise I want to do a little sight seeing and check out everything else going on at the Con and the city itself. All the times I’ve been to California I think this will be my first time in San Diego. I was going to say something about street cars, but that’s San Fransisco.
Oh, there’s a new website out there called suvudu.com Its aim is to be THE site for all things SF&F. Still early stages, but they are going to be filming interviews (wait, I keep assuming film and then find out it’s only audio) with authors and posting them. I will be one of many to have a chat with them. Should be fun.
Oooh, good luck!
San Diego is a lovely city. I’m not sure where the con is, but I think it’s near the water on the inner harbor. If so, you can kill lots of hours just walking and appreciating the sun and sand and warmth. If you go all the way through the funky shopping center, there’s a restaurant out on the point, with tables overlooking the harbor. They have a nice Sunday brunch; a bit pricey but worth it for being able to relax and watch the boats go by.
I believe you’re right and it’s right on the water. My hotel is nearby so it should be an easy and hopefully scenic walk. I will keep my eyes open for the funky shopping center.
I was thinking about going to this, because I’ve never been to a con, and San Diego’s only an hour or so south of me… but when I went to their site, I was waaaaay too late. All their memberships were sold out. I’m not sure I could handle wading through the sheer crowds that must mob that place either.
Looking forward to hearing your report! Have a great time!
As I understand it, Comic Con has been growing by leaps and bounds year after year. I’m told it’s absolutely massive. I hope I can find the places I have to be!
